Lesson learned in planning Supply Chain during this uncertain time
Supply chain plays a vital role in Logistics. It is classified as a group of people, activities, data and possessions involved in providing a product or service to the customer. The set of activities in providing efficient supply chain services includes transformation of natural resources and raw materials into a finished product and delivering to its customers respectively.
What happened in the world of ecommerce?
It is indeed crazy to see that this year is nearly ending, indeed it was a roller coaster ride due to COVID. It goes without saying that when pandemic started back in March 2020, there was a lot of panic and everyone was stressed about “what going to happen?” ” Will this world ever gonna be back to normal?”
Well in the start as everything was shut and indeed all the industries were affected with current situation and so was logistics. In the world of ecommerce, there was a rapid shortage of manufactures, services and operations. But it was gradually overcome with an abundance amount of people going for online shopping as people were stuck at homes and had no place to go and the only option they had was to focus on the things like home improvement, house renovations, interior decorations or even buying clothes as it is healthy exercise for mind isn’t?
Well hopefully as now nearly half of us are fully vaccinated and ‘back out in the world’ the instore shopping has resumed which is indeed a good sign but the certainty of COVID and people getting infected from it is still there so we all need to be careful.
Supply chain challenges and obstacles
Even in all this ‘back to normal’ world we are still experiencing a lot of issues and challenges with respect to supply chain. There are several challenges such as congested ports, shortages of suppliers and goods, delay in deliveries due to shortage of truck drivers, shortage of labour, lack of low warehouse and distribution centre and many more. There are just examples to show what our industries have and what they are suffering from in this current pandemic.
What lessons have we learned to overcome these issues?
In all this situation, supply chain is doing its best to overcome these challenges. Looking ahead when this pandemic will be over we will surely look back at this time and will certainly improve from this such as managing supply chain forecasting, demand management, inventory management as well as focusing on how the suppliers and carriers should collaborate in order to deliver goods and services on time. It will indeed take a lot of effort and time to implement these factors but these features can act as a guideline for us going forward. Bringing supply chain experts and logistics together on one table can surely help in improving these challenges and will aid in delivering goods and services to the customers on time effectively and efficiently.
